Love is Verbing

bad mouthing episode

Bad Mouthing... so easy to do.

I've been suffering a sore mouth (tooth or sinus related - does it really matter which?). Funds otherwise ear-marked - like repairing the car and a cracked phone screen.

This is a pain in the pocket as well as the head.

Rumi comes to my aid as he so often does, 'We are pain and what cures pain, both.' Ugh? What the f*ck does that really mean? I go on a story-hunt and find some old tales which have pained me for decades now surfacing as blaming and 'bad-mouthing' myself and others.

The pain is un-ignorable, story-hunting an imperative or so I thought. Prodding and poking about looking for explanation and reason. It's utterly wiped out by the incontrovertible fact that I cannot verify any story right now. There is only sensation - call it bad, call it intense - adjectives are irrelevant bar 'indescribable'.

The story is just a story. Ah... The pain immediately lessens and almost becomes pleasurable.

Plantain comes to mind. I find plantain (how strange it rhymes with pain) and make poultices. Propolis liquid helps. The cure is here. The pain eases and has now almost gone. But better still is the loss of the aching fantasies longing to be felt and then healed. I wonder at this alchemy between thought and the body.

Rumi lends a footnote, These pains that you feel are messengers. Listen to them. Turn them to sweetness. [Coleman Barks trans.] Sweet.
